Mr. Richard Hind

The man after whom we are named.

Mr. Hind

Richard Hind was born on December 31st, 1838 and on leaving school joined his father's firm John Hind & Sons, Sanitary and Electrical Engineers, of 95 High Street, Stockton. He became a member of the School Board in 1875 and served until 1884. He was an enthusiastic Liberal and was elected to the town council in 1878, representing the Stockton South-West ward.

Upon the retirement of his father he took over the management of Messrs. Hind and Son. In 1882 he married the daughter of Thomas Atkinson, and in 1884 was elected Mayor of Stockton. Four years later he was made an Alderman of the borough.

Mr. Hind died on July 13th, 1913. There is a record of his death in the girls school log.
